Sandrel Nicole Young, also known in the filmmaking community as “Sanicole”, is an extraordinary writer/director born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, IL. She graduated with her film/video degree from Columbia College Chicago and has exhibited numerous short films in film festivals and television outlets around the country. She’s also invested video work in prominent nonprofit organizations in Chicago dedicated to progressive information in health care, educating youth, rehabilitation and violence prevention.Her first film LOOSE CHANGE was accepted into the Black Harvest Film Festival at Gene Siskel Theater in Chicago and premiered at its annual opening night as one of the leading films in it’s two week run. Sanicole continued to be a active trailblazer in cinema by independently writing, producing, and directing a series of short films entitled, THE WHAT FACTOR (BHFF Selection), THE COLOR OF ACCEPTANCE (Nationally Aired on African American Short Films), REFLECTION and TEXT TONE (BHFF and Aired on ABFF Aspire TV African American Shorts) and her latest film SIDE EFFECTS (BHFF Selection). In addition to independent film work, she was also in collaboration with Pamela Bosley and Father Michael Pfleger, of St. Sabina Church; to produce a documentary entitled A JOURNEY TO PEACE. The film highlights Chicago’s gang activity and it’s effects on surrounding neighbors.
